Heather nodded. “Yeah, in an attempt to bring God to this world.” She balled her hands up tightly. “Some one tried to sacrifice her own daughter in a fire to allow God to be born.” She glanced to the sky. “Every since it rains only ash.” She glanced ahead, the store she was aiming for was getting closer at least.

Frank looked at her incredulously, disgust plain on his features. “That’s… man, there are some sick people in this world.” He eyed the ash all around them and shook his head. He kept moving, keeping pace with Heather.

Heather nodded, and gripped her upper arm to cover a burning ghost ache. Part of her knew the fire, and it cried out. “The Order…” Muttering she shook her head. “You wont like their, ahem, religion then.” She gave a faint laugh. It was actually horrible, but she wanted to keep the mood light. With a bit of a sigh she turned her head to check their position. “There!” She pointed at a fairly decent sized store, with a grit covered sign.

Frank turned his head at her cry, spotting the door, and had to duck his head slightly to hide the grin at her apparent excitement over having finally found it. “Haha… good eye. Not that I knew what we were looking for. Shall we?” Frank began moving towards the store, intending to scope the area out to check for danger.

Heather grinned a bit. “Heh, thanks.” She moved alongside him now, hand slipping for her pocket knife. As they got closer to the window she could see that damn rabbit, and it made her jump a bit. Well, it was a souvenir shop… but it was the creepiest damn thing ever. “Hate that rabbit…” She mumbled. But beyond the store window, it was black. She doubted they had been keeping up their electrical bill. “Hey, uhm, do you have a flashlight?” Last thing they needed was to be caught in the dark.

For a moment, Frank only stared at her. “The fire…?” He had to agree about the miracle though. He wouldn’t have made this home personally, however, and was more than eager to get back to his real home… whatever that was like.

Frank followed beside her, hanging back a little as he acquainted himself with the scenery. “Is it usually busier than this? I guess I’ve seen a fair share of people around, but mostly I see those things.” He wandered up to a glass window and peered in, out of curiosity. “This place looks so deserted, I can’t imagine it being populated.”

Heather frowned a bit. “Well, not recently. More like, once upon a time.” She sighed, she had never experienced it herself, but she knew it was once a thriving town. From tales, and from forced memories. “I heard it use to be a great vacation spot…” She glanced over as he seemed to check out what might have been a store once. She slowed her pace a bit, scanning as well. Though she didn’t get quite as close. “Some people still live here, no… not really live. Survive.”

Frank glanced around the town, trying to imagine a bustling, busy shopping area— then imagining the bustling, busy shopping area when one of the monsters he’d encountered made itself known. He winced. “I take it that the monsters are a relatively new addition then? It’s amazing that people can live here despite them.”

Heather blinked a bit. “The monsters…” She sighed and rubbed her head a bit. “Only after the fire, people stopped coming, and those who stayed were tortured by their own madness…” She lowered her hand. “It really is a miracle any one can stay here.” She felt extremely morbid for these thoughts, but it was true. The town fed off your fears, worries, and problems, bringing them into your life in the most horrific way possible. “But hey, it’s home.” She was quieter with the last part, staring at the road ahead.

“Oh, thanks!” Heather took the map, it had major streets. “Okay, we are abouuuut…” She had to remember where she turned, following it with her finger. “Here. On Bloch street…” She put her finger on it, there was either a bus line along this street, or a subway underneath. “I’m … not terribly sure there is anything near here.” There was a souvenir shop, that’s a laugh, on this street she knew of, but it would be to far away. Her face was skewed as she tried to think.

Frank peered at the map over her shoulder, memorizing what she said. “Alright… well I don’t really have a heading. Want me to walk with you to wherever you’re going? I might be able to help you look.” Frank moved back, shrugging. “If you don’t mind the company.”

“I wouldn’t mind it at all.” She smilled a bit. “Well, the is a souvenir shop to our…” For a moment she forgot which direction was which. “Left, it’s on the left. But to the right, over the bridge is a lot of shops… but it’s a waaaaay long walk.” She pushed some hair behind her ear. “Dunno bout you, but I would much rather go left.” She laughed a bit. But in all seriousness she didn’t want to wander too far. She still was a bit uneasy about being in this town at all.

“Haha, well, you lead— it’s not like I really know my way around anyway,” Frank chuckled, sticking his hands into his pockets. It was kind of nice doing something as normal as shopping… well, gathering, but in shops. He could remember doing something similar with Anne… He couldn’t help but smile at the the thought. Heather reminded him a lot of Anne when she was younger.

A big grin. “Alright.” Heather was happy to have the company. It was kind of like being with Douglas, if he didn’t just sit there like a lump half the time. She was starting to head left down the street, it was on about a block between them and a few shops. But she kept her eyes open for anything on the way. “It feels so weird, the town all empty like this.” Sure she was more use to it being full of monsters, but somehow even that felt more normal. Or maybe that was just a bit of Alessa slipping out.

“Well, do you know where we are? I have a bit of a map— really it’s just a bus line or something, but I used it once to find a hospital.” Frank fishes the map out, and frowns at it. “There are a few streets here…” He hands it out to her. “Anything look familiar?”

“Cool!” She seemed genuinely interested. “Hahah, yeah sounds pretty important.” She slipped her hands into her pockets, they were getting bored of just hanging. “Almost feel bad keeping you…” But the conversation was so… normal. Nothing weird, no mention of God, and certainly no mention of monsters.

Frank chuckled. “Don’t worry about that— I’ve got bigger problems keeping me from work. I suppose the biggest of them all is I can’t find one damn exit in this entire town that I can still use.” Frank indicated towards the town as he spoke, sounding a little exasperated, though he still tried to sound light-hearted. He knew he wasn’t the only one stuck here. “I suppose I’ll find something sooner or later, if I keep looking.” He shrugs and turns back towards Heather. “So, if you don’t mind me asking, where were you headed before you came out here for ‘fresh air’?”

Heather nodded. “It has a habit of doing that…” She shifted her hands a bit, being stuck in this town seemed to be a thing that just kept happening, just like the man that Douglas had been searching for… It was scary, the town seemed to eat people. “Huh? Oh, yeah. To be honest… I’m staying with some one, and I feel like the more I stay the more I’ll want to punch him in the face.” She grinned innocently. “So I was going to see if any shops still had some good magazines.”

Frank nodded. “It must be nice to have someone you trust here, though, huh?” He turned as he spoke, looking for the kind of store that might have some magazines. “I’m not even sure where you’d begin to look. This place just turns me around— it’s difficult to establish the point of reference in fog.”

“Yeah, it’s nice.” Though, she wasn’t in complete trust with the dirty creeper. Following his eyes she sighed a bit. “Me neither, I knew the area once… but it’s nearly impossible now.” She had a map once, but she never thought she would need it again. She really wished she had it now.
